Medico meetings

WA doctors are encouraged to attend two upcoming events – one for early career GPs and the other to discuss the State’s digital health future.

The Early Career GP Conference, which will be held at Busselton’s Broadwater Resort on August 24-25, is aimed at doctors who have just received or are about to receive their fellowship and are unsure how to start their career.

With 7.5 hours of CPD points, the conference, presented by the RACGP WA New Fellows Committee, will look at issues related to transitioning from a GP in training to an independent, fellowed GP, which is a major career and life-changing milestone.

It is designed by GPs for GPs, and the two-day conference will cover topics to including the art of consulting (the heartsink patient) presented by Dr Sean Stevens, beating burnout by Dr Helen Wilcox, efficient general practice by Dr Jags Krishnan, and managing uncertainty in rural practice by Dr Kayla Mizzi.

Go digital

The second event, the WA Digital Health Summit, is aimed at health’s forward-thinkers. Presented by the Australasian Institute of Digital Health, it will be held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on November 7-8.

With WA moving towards the vision of a connected, patient-centred health system, the meeting will focus on ways to achieve better health outcomes for people by connecting the pieces together across health systems from primary care to tertiary care and the whole community.

The program will include interoperability paving the way for a future EMR, telehealth and virtual care, artificial intelligence, workforce challenges and innovation solutions.
