Hollywood Private Hospital invests in cardiac care with two new cath labs

Hollywood Private Hospital is strengthening its position as a leader in private cardiac care with the addition of two new state-of-the-art cardiac catheterisation laboratories (cath labs) โ€” bringing the hospitalโ€™s total to six, the most of any hospital in Perth.

Construction on the new cath labs will begin soon, expanding the hospitalโ€™s capacity to deliver advanced cardiac and vascular procedures and supporting its vision to be the leading cardiovascular centre in the state.

Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Tome, said the expansion reflects the growing demand for specialist heart care in Western Australia and the hospitalโ€™s long-standing commitment to clinical excellence.

โ€œHeart disease remains one of the leading causes of hospitalisation in Australia. This investment ensures we are ready to care for more patients when they need us most โ€” and do so with the quality and continuity that Hollywood is known for,โ€ Mr Tome said.

โ€œWith six cath labs, weโ€™ll be able to scale our services to meet rising demand, while maintaining the individualised care, clinical standards and leading patient experience that our patients and referring doctors value.โ€

Hollywood Private Hospital already offers some of the most comprehensive private cardiac services in WA. Its integrated model includes 24/7 emergency cardiac care, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, structural heart, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, and cardiac rehabilitation โ€” all delivered by a multidisciplinary team of experienced clinicians.

The hospitalโ€™s acute cardiac unit, intensive care unit and dedicated cardiology ward are supported by highly experienced cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, intensive care specialists, nurses and allied health professionals. The program is further enhanced by advanced diagnostics including ECG, stress and exercise echocardiography, CT coronary angiography, cardiac MRI and nuclear cardiology.

โ€œOur model of care provides a full continuum โ€” from diagnosis and emergency intervention through to complex surgery and tailored rehabilitation programs,โ€ Mr Tome said.

โ€œWeโ€™re proud to offer patients timely access to expert care. This expansion will ensure we can continue to grow with our community and stay at the forefront of cardiovascular care.โ€

Hollywood Privateโ€™s cardiac program includes a large team of interventional and non-interventional cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, vascular surgeons and imaging specialists โ€” many of whom are involved in teaching, research and clinical trials.

โ€œWe work in close collaboration with referring GPs, cardiologists and other specialists to deliver coordinated care, backed by the latest in imaging and intervention,โ€ Mr Tome added.

โ€œAs patient needs evolve, our focus is on making sure we have the people, infrastructure and systems to respond quickly and effectively.โ€

The cath lab expansion is the latest chapter in Hollywoodโ€™s broader development strategy, which has included recent investments in oncology, neurosurgery, orthopaedics and general surgery. The hospital continues to be a key destination for both elective and urgent care in the private system.

For referring doctors and specialists, the new cath labs are expected to increase availability for procedures such as coronary angiography and angioplasty, electrophysiology studies, pacemaker and defibrillator implantation, and vascular interventions.

โ€œThis is a meaningful investment in the health of Western Australians,โ€ Mr Tome said. โ€œIt reflects not just where the demand is today, but where itโ€™s going โ€” and our commitment to staying ahead of that need.โ€
