WA mining sector united against cancer

Three of WA’ s largest mining companies have formed an alliance with the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research to support cancer research.

MACA Ltd, WesTrac Pty Ltd and Mineral Resources Ltd have committed with the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research to provide infrastructure and logistics support for cancer research.

The initiative, dubbed Perkins Alliance, will see these mining companies providing direct support or use their influence to reduce costs associated with the Harry Perkins Institute’s major annual fundraising event, the MACA Cancer 200 Ride for Research, which this year raised over $6 million for cancer research.

“All three companies leapt at the opportunity to offer their support. All have the equipment, infrastructure and logistics needed to host such a major event. They see the benefits of joining forces to deliver what is needed to reduce event costs so that more can go directly back to cancer research,” said Mr Steve Currie, Partner Relationship Manager at Harry Perkins.

The MACA Cancer 200 Ride for Research event will take place from the 16-17 October and will see more than 1,500 riders participate. Each participant has raised at least $2,500 and will complete a two-day bike ride from Optus Stadium to Mandurah and back.

Over the past nine years, this event has raised over $40 million for cancer research, significantly impacting the development of new and more effective treatment for different cancers.
