Dr Neale Fong has resigned as Director General of WA Health following the recommendation of corruption charges to be laid against him by the WA Corruption and Crime Commission. Dr Peter Flett is acting Director General until a permanent replacement can be found.
Dr Daniel Heredia has replaced Dr Peter Laundy (after a long break) as WA Medical Adviser to Medicare Australia in the National Compliance Operations division. Daniel was previously a psychiatry registrar at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

Dr Tarun Weeramanthri has been appointed to the new position of Executive Director of Public Health by WA Health. Since 2004, Tarun has been the Principal Medical Adviser and Chief Health Officer of the Northern Territory Department of Health and Community Services.
Still with WA Health, Dr Peter Silbert has been appointed as the state's first Director of Neurology. Peter is currently the Head of Neurology at Royal Perth Hospital and a visiting neurologist at King Edward Memorial, Sir Charles Gairdner, and St John of God Hospitals.

Mr Kevin Taylor has been appointed Group Director Corporate Services of St John of God Health Care. He was previously CEO of SJOG Pathology. Also at St John's, Mr Bryan Pyne has been named Group Director Finance after three years with the group.
Prof Moyez Jiwa and the team at the WA Cancer and Palliative Care Centre have won the Curtin University Vice-Chancellor's 2007 Award for Excellence.

The following awards were presented by the RACGP to WA medicos at their 50th Annual Scientific Convention in Sydney:
Kalamunda GP Dr Howard Watts was recognised with the Rose-Hunt Award, RACGP's most prestigious honour, which acknowledged Dr Watts' 39 years of service in promoting the aims and objectives of the RACGP.
Dr Tim Leahy, a GP from the Aboriginal Health Council of WA, and the Heart Foundation's Ms Lynette Dimer were awarded the Standing Strong Together Award in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health. They each receive an educational scholarship worth $2500.
