Practical considerations when deprescribing antidepressants

Antidepressants remain among the most commonly prescribed medications. While long-term use often occurs in the context of complex mental health issues and physical and social comorbidities, there is considerable potential for structured re-evaluation and timely discontinuation when medications are no longer needed.

This is because, for some patients, continuing medication may provide no clear, evidence-based benefit.
