Providing peer support for ostomates

An ostomate is a person who has had surgery that results in the diversion of urine or faeces onto the abdomen via an opening referred to as a stoma or ostomy.

The two main faecal stomas are colostomy and ileostomy, and the urinary system opening is known as a urostomy. 

The diverted urine or faeces is collected into a bag which is attached to the skin around the stoma. Ostomates in WA receive their bags and accessories from the Western Australian Ostomy Association (WAOA)....
