A Perth paediatrician facing allegations of sexually assaulting patients has had his registration suspended.
Police charged 41-year-old Chia Liang Saw with persistent sexual conduct with a child under 16 and possessing child exploitation material on May 29.
Specialising in paediatric behavioural issues, the paediatrician had been working at a location in Midland and another in Nedlands.
A spokesperson for the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency confirmed to Medical Forum that the practitionerโs registration was suspended on June 5.
โThis means he cannot practise anywhere in Australia,โ the spokesperson said.
โThe Medical Board of Australia has the power to take immediate action to suspend a practitioner if there is a serious risk to public health or safety or it is in the public interest when a practitioner is charged with a serious criminal offence,โ they said.
The spokesperson said Ahpra was actively working with WA Police on the matter which is before the courts.
Detectives from the child abuse squad are investigating the case and have urged anyone affected, or anyone with information relevant to this investigation, to come forward.
