The downside of funding longer consultations

The RACGP and 20 peak patient bodies have called on the federal government to fund longer GP consultations in a bid to keep the cost of seeing a GP down for patients with chronic disease and complex health needs.

But the proposal might not add up to all it is meant to, writes Midland GP Dr Nicholas Stanley-Cary.

This proposal, in essence, attributes an equal dollar value to every minute spent with a GP.
