RSV in adults – risks and outcomes

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a highly contagious pathogen that causes respiratory tract infections across all age groups.

Due to its classic presentation with bronchiolitis in young children, until the last few decades it was not usually associated with adult disease.

However improved diagnostic tests and more regular testing of adults with respiratory tract infections have revealed RSV to be a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in adults, and especially older adults....
