The Department of Health’s Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) program is open to new applicants.
Every year, the Department of Health holds two AGPT training sessions, each allowing up to 1,500 participants. The program trains doctors to become General Practitioners in cities as well as regional, rural and remote areas of Australia.
The program is open to all doctors, both Australian-trained or those who obtained their degree overseas, who wish to specialise in general practice. Participants of the AGPT program will receive training towards achieving one of the following fellowships:
- Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM)
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP)
- FRACGP and Fellowship of Advanced Rural General Practice
Once a doctor has attained either of these fellowships, they can register with Medical Board of Australia and work, unsupervised, as a GP anywhere in Australia.
