Dr Felicity Jeffries has stepped down as Rural Health West's CEO and has taken up the newly created position of Director of Medical Clinical Reform at the WA Country Health Service. Mr Nick Francis has been appointed as Felicity's replacement at Rural Health West. Nick has been with Rural Health West for eighteen months working on special projects. Prior to that, he was the CEO of GP Down South Division.

Former Director General of WA Health Dr Neale Fong has joined the board of Prime Health Group, John Poynton's corporate health and training services provider. This is Dr Fong's second board appointment since resigning from the Health Department.

As reported in our April edition, Kevin Taylor has stepped aside as St John of God Pathology's CEO (although he remains SJOG's Group Director Corporate Services). His replacement is Melbourne-based Graham Armstrong, previously the state manager of QML Pathology in Queensland (part of Symbion Health). He was also a state manager of Western Diagnostic Pathology.

Prof John Olynyk has been appointed as Clinical Lead for WA Health's Digestive Health Network. Prof Olynyk is a gastroenterologist and hepatologist based in the UWA School of Medicine and Pharmacology at Fremantle Hospital. 

Prof Peter Leedman has taken up the role of Medical Director of the Scott Kirkbride Melanoma Research Centre. Prof Leedman is also currently the Director of Research at RPH and Deputy Director of WAIMR.

William Ardrey has been appointed as Solbec Pharmaceuticals Chairman after incumbent chair Russell Barnett moved to the position of non-executive director.

Dr Nicholas Waldron, an Advanced Trainee in Geriatric Medicine at SCGH, has received a NICS Fellowship from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) – co-sponsored by the WA Department of Health. He will use the NICS-WA Health Fellowship to undertake a two-year implementation project to improve the assessment of patients who have suffered a fall, using best practice strategies.

UK-based Iain Chessell has been appointed as neurology research and development company NeuroDiscovery's CEO and director. Iain is the former worldwide head of pain research at GlaxoSmithKline.

Dr Helen Willcox has been appointed as a senior lecturer in the UWA School of Primary, Aboriginal, and Rural Health Care. Dr Sue Fletcher (Centre of Neuromuscular and Neurological Disorders) and Dr Deborah Trinder (School of Medicine and Pharmacology) have been promoted to Principal Research Fellows. Drs David Preen and Min Zhang have been promoted to Senior Research Fellows in the School of Population Health.

Seven UWA researchers were awarded Heart Foundation grants to further their cardiovascular research. They were Dr Graeme Polglase, Dr Lawrie Abraham, Dr Bu Yeap, Prof Hugh Barrett, Prof Kevin Croft, Prof Frank Christiansen, and Dr Esther Ooi. Dr Ooi was also awarded the $10,000 Bendat Family Foundation Perpetual Scholarship for research of heart-related diseases overseas.

Zedmed has signed an agreement with Healthscope to run their medical practice software in all Healthscope centres  (including twelve in WA).
