Bunbury building company Perkins Builders has won the contract to revamp the Margaret River Hospital's ED, operating theatres, labour ward and imaging suites at a cost of $3m.

BioMD Ltd has signed a collaborative research agreement with the CSIRO.

WA-based biotech investment company Xceed Biotechnology Ltd has announced its investee company PolyNovo Biomaterials Pty Ltd has joined the Burns Unit at Royal Adelaide Hospital to investigate using its NovoSorb biodegradable polymer technology in the treatment of burns. The company's plant and staff are based in Victoria so pharmacist-trained CEO David McAuliffe – who has GP and radiologist brothers in WA – travels a lot. Both companies are cashed up to ~$11m and in for the long haul in the hope that their CSIRO-researched product will have orthopaedic applications eventually.

The Sanofi-Aventis merger has not led to a decrease in sales staff in WA. Sanofi State Manager Mr Peter Mortimer has been replaced by Aventis State Manager Ms Fiona Milliner (cardiovascular) and Ms Lexie Wilkins (CNS).

Mr Anthony Lynch has left his position at Perth's Superdrome as education manager with Sports Medicine Australia, to take up a post with Christchurch Grammar.

Following the merger with Accord, Clinipath's Marketing Manager Jenifer Parker has left the pathology provider to become Sales and Promotions Manager WA/NT for Medibank Private in Perth. Ms Victoria Vandezande has joined Clinipath's marketing arm as services representative.

Mr Douglas McNaught has left Vacutex Ltd to be replaced by Marketing Manager Robert Gourlie. At the same time a new CEO was announced, Mr Christopher Carter. Both will be working out of Melbourne.

Ms Sophie Rowell is now Community Safety Manager at the Injury Control Council of WA, promoting the WHO Safe Communities model in WA and managing a project targeting community violence and young people.

At Visiomed Group, Mr William Dolphin has replaced CEO Mr Saliba Assine who will continue on as a non executive director and major shareholder.

Prof Lyle Palmer, youngest scientist to ever be appointed to a Chair in the UWA Medical School and Western Australian Institute for Medical Research researcher looking into the genetics of asthma, has received the 1st Among Equals award from WA Business News. Drs Lachlan Henderson (SJOG Murdoch Dir of Medical Services) and Nat Lenzo (nuclear medicine head RPH) also featured in their 40UNDER40 high flier awards.

MSA Security has won a $2.6m contract to improve security services at Swan District Hospital, a change brought on by the assault there on psychiatric nurse Debbie Freeman last year.
