  • The Aboriginal Health Council of WA (AHCWA) recently appointed Mr Craig Somerville as its new CEO and Mr Des Martin as its new Operations Director.
  • MDO Avant Mutual Group Limited has appointed lawyer Ms Catherine (Cath) Carroll to the Perth office as its first Claims Manager in WA. Cath has practised in both WA and NSW, and was formerly Claims Manager (Solicitor) at MDA National Insurance.
  • Ms Janice Lawrence has taken up a new post with GE Healthcare as Regional Sales Manager after 12 years as WA State Sales Manager for GSK.
  • A number of significant State tenders have been awarded within WA Health: Surgical And Medical Procedure Specific Information Sheets, $1.57m (2 years) – Specialist Management Services Pty Ltd (only tender); Specialist Insolvency Advice and Monitoring of the Financial Viability of the Managing Contractor Contract for Fiona Stanley Hospital Project, $0.33m (3 years) – Ferrier Hodgson; and Supply, Installation, Commissioning and Maintenance of Central IP Video Conferencing Infrastructure for Telehealth, $0.91m (3 years) – Broadreach Services.
  • Dr Tarun Weeramanthri has been appointed to the Board of Healthway as the nominee of the WA Department of Health. He is currently Executive Director Public Health and Chief Health Officer at the Department. Dr Weeramanthri trained as a general physician at RPH (1984-1990) and he has held public health positions in NT where he helped to develop the NT Preventable Chronic Disease Strategy while Chief Health Officer.
  • Dr Paul Armstrong has transferred from NSW to take up the post of director of the Communicable Diseases Control Directorate. He is an epidemiologist and infectious diseases specialist whose experience includes public health emergency planning.
  • Dr Rosanna Capolingua has been appointed to the board of St John of God Health Care, strengthening her presence within the WA Catholic fraternity where she also serves on the Board of Governors of the University of Notre Dame Australia.
  • Grainne Friel has accepted the 12 months parental leave position of Chief Executive Officer and Director of Nursing at St John of God Hospital in Geraldton. Grainne has previously held positions at the hospital as well as at the public Geraldton Hospital and the WA Country Health Service – Midwest and Geraldton Nursing Home.
