Modern treatment options for ankle arthritis

Unlike hip and knee osteoarthritis, ankle arthritis is most commonly the result of injury, often appearing decades afterwards.

Fractures, chronic sprains resulting in instability and malalignment are the most common causes of post traumatic osteoarthritis. Other causes are inflammatory arthritis, crystal arthropathies and haemochromatosis.

Severe ankle arthritis often presents earlier than hip and knee arthritis making treatment options more difficult....
