The following awards were presented by the RACGP to WA medicos at their 50th Annual Scientific Convention in Sydney:

Kalamunda GP Dr Howard Watts was recognised with the Rose-Hunt Award, RACGP's most prestigious honour, which acknowledged Dr Watts' 39 years of service in promoting the aims and objectives of the RACGP.

Dr Tim Leahy, a GP from the Aboriginal Health Council of WA, and the Heart Foundation's Ms Lynette Dimer were awarded the Standing Strong Together Award in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health. They each receive an educational scholarship worth $2500.

Fremantle Family Doctors won the 2007 WA General Practice of the Year Award, recognising the practice's commitment to accreditation, the standard of facilities, and services offered to the local community.

RACGP WA presented the following awards at a recent ceremony at Central TAFE, Northbridge:

Dr Grant Russell was awarded the Geoffrey Gates Award for long and meritorious service to the RACGP WA Faculty.

Prof Moyez Jiwa won the RACGP WA Research Award.

The WA Prize for Excellence in Population Health was awarded to Dr Joy Rowland and Dr Noel Plumley.

Dr Vinod Pushpalingam and Dr Helen Wilcox won the Edward Gawthorn Prize 2007 (1 & 2) for achieving the highest WA college exam results.

The Max Kamien Medal (for best report on the problems facing a patient with a chronic disease by a first year medical student) was won by Miss Trista Koprowski

The Alfred Naylor Jacobs Award (for sixth year medical student showing outstanding ability in rural general practice) was won by Miss Jemma Golding.

The RACGP/University of Notre Dame Award (for a Notre Dame medical student demonstrating exceptional service to a general practice during their general practice placement) was awarded to Mr Damon Steptoe and Mr Anuruthran Ambikapailan.

Mr Gary Pace has resigned as chairman of WA biotech Resonance Health. His replacement is director Ian Anderson. Messrs Michael DalsinRoger Greene have stepped down as non-executive directors. CEO Ed Dooling (based in USA) has also left the company. and

Mr Peter Taylor has joined the WA Institute for Medical Research as Manager, People and Performance.

Solbec Pharmaceuticals has appointed Mr Grant Bennett as a director.

Mr Shane Stone has resigned as non-executive director of Medtech Global, a WA medical software company.

Mr Frank Welsch-Lehmann has resigned as CEO of medical technology company Medec. His interim replacement is Mr Bernard Wee.

Mr John Conidi has joined radiology and dentistry company Capitol Health as non-executive director following Dr Russell Fine's resignation.

PharmAust has appointed Mr Harry Gulav as non-executive director.

Mr Tony Evans has been appointed by Perth biotech company NeuroDiscovery as a non-executive director. Founding non-executive director Mr Tony King has left the company.

Ms Lara Standen has joined the Leukaemia Foundation WA as business relationship manager. She was previously with the Breast Cancer Foundation of WA.

Founding director of biotech company BioPharmica Mr Charles Murphy has resigned from the board.
