General Practitioners wanting to dispense COVID-19 vaccines through the national rollout scheme have until 1 February to register their interest.
The Australian Department of Health is requesting expressions of interest from general practices wanting to participate in phase 1b of the national Covid-19 vaccine roll-out strategy. The deadline for application is 1 February, through an official government online portal, found here.
Amid the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, the Australian government has established four separate agreements for the supply of COVID-19 vaccines, investing more than $3.3 billion in the process.
Now, one of these agreements, involving the University of Oxford and the biotech firm AstraZeneca, is set to produce its first results. The COVID-19 vaccine produced by these partners, called ChAd0x1-S, has progressed through the clinical trial pathway and are now ready for deployment.
The phase 1b stage of the vaccine rollout strategy is focused on a specific target population, including:
- People aged 70 years and over;
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults;
- Critical and high-risk workers including defence, police, fire, emergency services and meat processing;
- Health care workers other than those prioritised in Phase 1a, including (but not limited to)
- Hospitals, general practices, pharmacists, allied health, and other healthcare services in community; and
- People at increased risk of severe disease.
